Stephen Stills is my favorite artist ever so it is hard for me to be critical. I consider him to be one of the most talented if not the most talented musician from the 60's era. He is a guitar virtuoso, gifted multi instrumentalist and has one of the most unique voices ever and he is one of America's most gifted song writers. He also is amazing and electrifying to see live in concert.
This recording captures him at a difficult time in his life. He is clearly in pain emotionally and the music reflects that.
It's just him and an acoustic guitar. He lets the music pour out of him. Isn't It So, Just Isn't Like You, Singin Call-which I believe is a demo from an earlier time, The Right Girl-those songs express exactly where he was at the time.
All these other reviews comparing his voice to earlier times- it's ridiculous. His voice had changed drastically by the time this was recorded and yet it is still Stephen Stills. Nobody else has ever moved me as much musically as he does,he wears his emotions on his sleeve and his guitar playing is nothing short of amazing!
The balance of the album is some covers of artists he clearly admires: Dylan, Fred Neil, The Beatles and 2 more of his own- Amazonia and Treetop Flyer and Blind Fiddler Medley- a very old tune interspersed with pieces of his own songs like Know You Got To Run.
It's all good and raw Stephen Stills! Maybe that is why I like this CD so much. If you are a fan of his, you should too.

This is an excellent cd to have. If you like the oldies, but goodies this is one you'll want. Tree top flyer is the best on the album, few compare. This is hard to find, out of print. Others have said that they have been fooled by listings that state new in pkg. Just beware you pay for what you get. I lucked out and got the cd from someone used. Although the case wasn't in excellent condition, some scratches, the insert had a minor wear as the seam is perf. and a corner fold had started to separate, the cd seemed to be flawless and certainly played as such. So, all said because of the age of this cd, I was satisfied. However, I didn't pay as much as some sellers want. I would recomend research of seller.

Stephen Stills comes through big on this album. Yes if your only in your twenties you probably won't like it, but for those of us that are a little up there in the years- a must have album. Mine was in a brand new CD holder. CD was in perfect condition. If you find this out there expect to pay more and more for this album. It is no longer in production unfortunately. It took me months to find this album for my wife.

First released back in 1991, this little gem is just Stephen singing and playing on acoustic guitars. Covers of: (Fred Neil) "Everybody's Talkin" and (Lennon-McCartney) "In My Life", right alongside Stills' own compositions: "Isn't it So" and "Singin' Call". Stephen has been the master-of-tales for over 40 years now and: "Stills Alone" is the proof of the greatness of this performer. This is the ONLY place to find the great tune: "Treetop Flyer" in a studio setting, and that alone makes this one special.
If there is one thing wrong with: "Stills Alone" that would be the length of this CD, as it is too short. Stephen, needs to re-release this one with 20 tracks, add on: "Stateline Blues" or "Midnight Rider." As I have have witnessed these performances in concert, and Mr. Stills, armed with only an acoustic guitar NAILED them.
This is my favorite Stephen Stills CD, and now it's out-of-print and will cost you BIG BUCKS. I do hope the powers that be will bring this one back, bigger & better...

This Stills recording has been sadly overlooked over the years and it's hard to find status sadly continues to keep newer fans from discovering the talent of this guitar master. Let's all hope it makes it back into print or that Stephen puts together another solo acoustic compilation to encourage fans both the young and those who are " long in the tooth"

Short but sweet
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 17, 2015
As a big fan of CSNY, I have always liked the music of the band as a whole and also as individual members with a particular like for Stephen Stills. His range of musical styles combined with his virtuoso guitar playing make him the standout member of the band for me.
I love it when he plays acoustic guitar and apart from various bootlegs there was never an official release of his playing purely acoustic songs....until this CD.
I read about this CD many years ago but have never been able to find it when attending CD fairs. So looking to Amazon I was very pleased to see its availability. The sound quality of the recordings are fantastic, crystal clear. His voice combined with his wonderous guitar playing make this a treat for the ears.
The running time of the CD is very short (35 mins) which is a great pity since he could have included much more material hence my review title of short but sweet.
