Bob was at his most iconic when he toured at this date period ... 1976. He only got more so after and until his untimely passing in 1980. His band was just so well rounded with talent, and the I-Three's were just perfect for the music and the message brought forth. The music on this pair of CD's is , from my understanding the full show ... I would have given a gold mine to have been able to see this event. The feel and the groove of the show is addicting, and that is one of the things that made Reggae so primal to almost everybody. It made you, sway and move to the music. Bob Marley was a gift, and this is realized, more and more as time moves on. He wasn't the only gift, but he was a massive gift never the less. This set of music brilliant ... give it a listen, it will NOT disappoint.

Okay I won't dilly dally - I attended this concert and I have seen all the greats play - Doors, Hendrix, Dylan and even Black Sabbath debut concert at the Whisky (incredible). But combined with the fact that almost 100 tickets went unsold (see last paragraph for story) making the already tiny Roxy (400+ capacity) seem empty, and the fact that the small lodge (available to those who were in the "Roxy Club") was full of celebs, Linda Blair, Eric Clapton, Warren Beatty, John Lennon, Ringo - on and on, made this the most spectacular show. I hope Bob appreciated the high quality ganja that filled the room and may have helped to make this the most incredible musical concert (party?) that may have ever taken place in rock history. If I could relive one concert this would be it.
I arrived at the Roxy ticket office the morning the tickets went on sale and I was third in line. The first in line bought 4 tickets; the second guy in line bought the remaining 96 tickets sold to the public. I asked him what was up and why he bought all the tickets and could I buy some. He said he worked for Troy Tickets. So I went to Troy and bought some tickets. The night of the concert, shortly before the doors opened I saw the scalper with a huge wad of tickets: It appears that back in 1976 the fan base could not search out tickets to a concert that was barley promoted. So there he was with all those unsold tickets and I would estimate that the overwhelming majority of the tickets in his hand went unused that night, as the floor was half full. Karma. Can you imagine walking by the Roxy that night and someone handing you a free ticket to what may have been the world's best concert experience? It probably happened to several people. I was also at the Santa Barbra County Bowl concerts. The last one is available in DVD - Highly recommended.

Definitely a must have if you are a Bob Marley and The Wailin Wailers fan. They threw down on this one. The instrumentals on the 2nd CD alone will have you connecting with the collective vibe of the audience that was there. One of their best, if not the best, concerts.

Live at the Roxy is without question the best "live" album the great man ever produced. This is a tour de force - a wonderfully intimate experience with great audience particpation (lots of yelps and yeahs) - brilliantly recorded - and some of the most intense singing - moaning and groaning - from the dreadlocked guru ever caught on tape. Soul meets Reggae meets Funk. His earlier live albums lack this intimacy, and are recorded in much larger venues which make those albums much less vibrant for me.
I am also delighted that many of these live tracks are from Rastaman Vibration and Burning and Looting and Catch a Fire (earlier albums) which are less well known that some of his later work. The band is hot and the I threes are pure magic. Believe me when I tell you this is a hidden gem - a must have. What a pity it was never filmed. Buy it now.

This is the show. Of all the ones up here on the site for sale. This show is the One. Bob is so great here. Clear voiced. Singing and playing with joy. The 2nd set Encore has one long ass jam to close that night that will make you fall in love with Bob all over again. Classic!

A great show! Right from the start the band is in fine form and plays a great set of music. No fluff in this show - Bob and the Wailers are playing protest music. The music has an edge and it makes for an inspiring night. The audience is appreciative throughout and adds to the recording as it gives the listener a real sense of being there on the Hollywood Strip in 1976. Highly recommended!
This also makes a great accompaniment to Legend: Greatest Hits as there is very little overlap of songs.

I have been listenting to Bob Marley since junior high (I'm 44 yo now) and have bought/re-bought most all of his recordings - first on cassette, then on CD, then on re-mastered CD versions, etc.
IMO, this is his best live recording. The sound quality is quite good and the "ambiance" of the set is very intimate so you feel like you are right there in the audience. The group sounds super tight and Bob's voice is in great form. This has become my "go to" CD when I need to feel irie. If you are even a casual Bob Marley and the Wailers fan, you should get this - you won't be disappointed.

Great BM and The Wailers , I prefer the rawness of this recording against some of the more polished studio versions

Awesome sounding recording! Really captured the live experience at the time. A must have for any Marley fan. Buying experience was top notch. The UK seller shipped immediately and also sent me an email to indicate that shipping time was usually faster than stated in the description. True enough, the CD set arrived here to Canada in 7 days from date of purchase. Very impressive! I'd buy from this seller again.

Bob Marley - lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Earl"Chinna"Smith - lead & rhythm guitar
Donald Kinsey - lead guitar
Tyrone Downie - keyboards
Aston"Family Man"Barrett - fender bass
Carlton Barrett - drums and percussion
Alvin"Seeco"Patterson - percussion
I-Three (Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths & Judy Mowatt)
