He was married to Rosemary Hall for 60 years and they had 8 children. He was a widower in 2008. He received The National Medal of The Arts from President Clinton in 1998. He had a major influence on The Beatles. In an interview in the mid '70's, Elvis Presley said Fats Domino was a major influence and called him the real King of Rock and Roll. Fats Domino passed away in 2017 at the age of 89. GOD bless him.
Stylistically Little Richard and Fats were on two different ends of the spectrum. Fats and his piano possessed a mellow sound versus Richard and his frantic, piano pounding, but they both made great music. Fats was gentle not only on the piano, but vocally as well, with his creole inflected pipes almost seemingly crooning over a rock and roll beat. Fats was a very talented songsmith, even writing his own material.
Fats is a joy to listen to. The songs are catchy and they're more varied than Little Richard's --awesome-- work. The songs on this collection are nicely REMASTERED and sound great on the stereo. Fats was gentle. Fats was nonthreatening, but he made great music and it's a joy relaxing and grooving to these tunes. What a pioneer. Long live Fats! 5/5 stars. Highly recommended.
