2005's "Traffic Gold" is the PERFECT Traffic compilation album!!!
It contains 2 CDs, 30 songs, and over two and a half hours of music, including the hard to find singles, "Paper Sun", "Hole In My Shoe", and "Smiling Phases", as well as a live version of "Gimme Some Lovin".
It's chronological and contains 2 to 8 songs from each of their first 7 studio albums, from 1967's "Mr. Fantasy", to 1974's "When The Eagle Flies".
If you don't own ANY "Traffic" albums and are just curious, "Traffic Gold" is the PERFECT place to start! It quite possibly could fulfill ALL of your Traffic needs on its own, or inspire you to purchase the individual albums.
And if you're a longtime Traffic fan and already own several of their albums (I already owned 5 myself), but still just need a few songs to fulfill your Traffic needs (as was my case), I would bet that "Traffic Gold" will have most if not all of the songs you're looking for.
So whether you're an "Old" or "New" Traffic fan and are looking to start or complete your Traffic collection, in my opinion, "Traffic Gold" would be the BEST and least expensive way to go.
PLUS, it's ALL "Remastered", which is definitely a bonus for someone like me, who has only the original "Island" CDs.

One of the best bands from my favorite era of R n' R. Great song selection. Two cd's, 30 tracks and a nice booklet. Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Feelin' Alright, Empty Pages, only 3 out of all the greats. Love Winwoods voice, such a talented man. Of course, it takes more than one man to make a band. Capaldi co-wrote most of the tunes, Chris Wood and Dave Mason? You have one classic set of musicians.

Love traffic. Nice to sit and paint to Traffic.

Traffic was a great band that fused many disparate and interesting musical styles. They incorporate blues, jazz and hard rock. This two-CD set demonstrates how the band evolved from a good, tight but not particularly distinctive ensemble to the unique and powerful group they became with such masterpieces as "Dear Mr. Fantasy," "Feelin' All Right" and "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys." The music of Traffic was soulful, honest, sophisticated and also deeply personal. One feels, listening to these tracks, that one is getting to know this group of intelligent and talented souls from Birmingham, England. Steve Winwood's virtuosity and voice are worth hearing over and over again.

Unlike some older disks-no changed lyrics, just high quality audio. I was pleasantly surprised with older songs brought to life with rich sounds from numerous instruments and voices. A true winner

I've been listening to Traffic since '67 and have owned every concoction that's been released over the years, including the Winwood box set, but this release beats them all. I've had several of the Gold series, and they've been servable greatest compilations, but for whatever reason, this item rises above the average. The mixes are extremely clear and am able to actually understand many of Winwood's vocals that I've always had trouble understanding. The discs offer a nice balance of cuts from Dear Mr. Fantasy thru When The Eagle Flies. The only disc that gets shorted is Last Exit which I understand was a record company compilation. The discs each clock in at 80 min! OMG! Someone finally used the entire disc lengths. Plus, there is a thick booklet with pics, detailed track listings, and an informative essay in which I actually learned things I didn't already know. Instead of going on about the Summer of Love, the essayist chronicles the many incarnations of the band. Buy with confidence. I saw the one negative review about manufacturing defects but that can happen on any release.

Great value 2CD compilation but beware the MP3 download

This is excellent value, two packed CDs with over 2.5 hours of music. It's not perfect, I've never liked the twee kiddie-psych of "Hole In My Shoe" and some of the 70s tracks have not aged well. However "Dear Mr Fantasy" (the best thing they ever did) still sounds brilliant, "John Barleycorn" is great, and so is most of CD1, and there is some good stuff amongst the meandering jams on CD2. Overall it's a real bargain at the price.
NOTE This should come with a free MP3 download. However the download I received was 8 tracks/26 minutes of some awful rubbish, complete with "explicit" lyrics, apparently released in 2022 by a group or artist named Traffic. I told Amazon Customer Services, whose uninterested response was that as I had the right CD what was the problem. I now need to find out how to delete this from my online library

I’ve always been a huge fan of early British progressive rock and jazz fusion and Steve Winwood was one of the early pioneers back in the 60’s.
