What are the latest local developments in dealing with sheltering in place and preventing the spread of the COVID19 virus? Listen in weekdays at 7:50am and 4:50pm as John Sandige and Michael Gaither interview our local leaders, medical personnel, and those working on the front lines to keep Santa Cruz and SLO Counties running and healthy. The Central Coast Virus Updates are produced by "Sleepy" John SandigeMichael Gaither, and Ralph Anybody.

We also featured interviews with representatives from two local nonprofits: Vets for Vets and Watsonville Campesino Appreciation Caravan.</p>You can re-listen to them - and all of the past interviews - here in the archive. You can re-listen to them - and all of the past interviews - here in the archive.

Behind the Video: "Ripple"

It started out simple enough: "Hey, why don't we get some Santa Cruz artists together and have you all do a "Playing For Change"-style take on The Grateful Dead song "Ripple". A few weeks - and LOTS of emails and phone calls later - songwriter Keith Greeninger, Andy Senczak of Gadgetbox Studios and KPIG DJ and songwriter Michael Gaither (full disclosure: that's me writing this post) produced a music track and video featuring lots of local talent. The video itself evolved into a tribute and thank you to all the front line workers who are keeping us fed and healthy.

As of this writing, the video has been up a little over a week and has received over 10K views on YouTube. Wallace Baine (good friend of the pig) did an in-depth story on how the project came together. You can listen to his KSQD interview with Michael here or read about it in the recent Santa Cruz Good Times article

Bill Murray Shows KPIG Love on "Jimmy Kimmel Live"

Well this made our day...and our week...and our...well, 'nuff said. Bill Murray, one of our absolute favorite people on the planet, was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night in a sheltered-in-place interview from his dry bathtub. And he was proudly sporting his KPIG t-shirt.

Image of Signatures

Backstory: A pal of Murray's dropped by the station recently, said he was a fan of KPIG, and asked if it would be possible to get a KPIG t-shirt for him. We did one better: We all signed it before it was shipped off. Look closely, and you might see your favorite DJ's signature in this shot. Check out the entire segment here, and thanks Bill!
