Meet Thomas, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Pet of the Week. He's is a beefy, mild-mannered, sweet potato of a kitty with reliable litter box skills looking for a loving indoor home where he can be safe and comfortable in his golden years. Like many senior pets, he'll need regular vet care and could actually use some dental work right off the bat.

Adoption Special: Because of his special needs, and thanks to our Shelley's Angels fund, Thomas' adoption fee is just $55.

Thomas previously lived (and loved to nap with) his senior human, who, sadly, had to give him up due to her own declining health.

If Thomas isn't the right fit, our shelter is literally BURSTING with wonderful pets of all descriptions, and all adoptions always include spay or neuter, vaccines, and a microchip! Because we're so crowded, we're having ANOTHER free adoption weekend October 4th and 5th.

One of the reasons we have so many cats at the shelter right now is because of a hidden hoarding situation that literally exploded here in Santa Cruz recently: a violent explosion and fire in a home landed residents in the hospital and 25 cats and kittens without shelter or caretakers. The 12 kitties from this case that have not yet been adopted are very sociable and out-going, and, remarkably, were uninjured - some just have temporarily singed, curly whiskers as a sign of their very close call...

We're also extremely full with dogs - puppies, adults, large and small, fluffy or smooth, active or chill, some looking for homes with other dogs, others preferring to be the only canines in the house.
