UPS and USPS are beautiful, healthy young cats ready to deliver about 13-18 years of entertainment, companionship to a lucky family! These two grey tabby & white shorthairs are part of group of FIVE 8 month old siblings brought to the shelter without a lot of information. They were likely just another accidental litter, lucky enough to be born someplace where they seem to have at least gotten some decent care. They were a bit nervous when they first arrived, but are in good condition, healthy, and quite sociable. They're enjoying their stay because they're lucky enough to be housed together in the sunny, bright, and airy "catio room" at the front of the Santa Cruz shelter. They're already "fixed," so the shelter is hoping we'll have some adopters come in soon looking for a couple of nice young cats to adopt!

For cats this age, their purrrsonalities have emerged, they're playful and athletic, and, having grown up together, these teenagers have developed great social skills, like bite inhibition and how to read the behavior of other cats very well, and that translates very well in new homes, especially if you take home more than one! Bonded pairs of cats can be adopted together for just one adoption fee, and that means built-in companionship and extra entertainment for life!

If you come to visit these kids, be sure to check out the catio room itself - the fantastic catio attached to the window was built by an amazing shelter volunteer and it allows the cats to have safe time in the fresh air and sunshine without being at risk from cars, dogs, or wildlife, and without being a threat to native wildlife and birds! It's meant to serve as a model for a concept you can try at home - it's the ideal set-up to provide pet cats with safe access to the outdoors. Catios are available in all different varieties - attached to windows or doors or free-standing, and you can get them as ready-to-assemble kits, as DIY plans or "hacks" of other projects, or you can hire a skilled contractor to build one from yours or someone elses' plans. It's a smart way to satisfy your cats while having peace of mind.

PLUS this weekend is the Shelter's Animal Balance low-cost spay/neuter clinic. A few spots are still left. If you have or know a dog or cat who needs to get fixed, vaccinated and microchipped - at an affordable price!
