Sometimes wonderful things happen at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. This week's Pet of the Week, Bailey, was just posted here AND adopted yesterday! So this week, we get a bonus Pet of the Week! Have a look at Lottie. She's a beautiful, sociable young female Rottweiler. She was found as a stray, so we don't know much about her background, but she's been friendly and easy-going with staff and volunteers at the shelter so far, and the person who found her reported that she did well with her and with her own dog. When she met another dog here at the shelter who was about her size, she showed good canine social skills, they became friends quickly, and they were soon romping and playing together!

She pulls some on her leash at the start of a walk but then settles in and walks nicely. She enjoys chasing balls and playing a bit of tug or just tossing and chewing on toys. She's been consistently going potty when she gets taken out of her kennel, but we don't have any history regarding her house-training skills, or how she does with smaller pets, cats, or kids.

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering "Pawsitivity Bucks" with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a perfect way for newly adopted dogs and their guardians to connect with a local positive reinforcement trainer to learn a bit more about how to communicate well and get their relationship off to a great start!
