Here's Chapo, this week's Pet-of-the-Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. He's a large, middle-aged gentleman of a dog, about 75 pounds and 6 years old. The shelter has known him for several years, but recent times have been tough on his previous guardians, and they were unable to keep up his care. Now we're hoping to find a new "soft landing," indoor home for him. AND since he's been at the shelter for more than 45 days, his adoption and fees are sponsored.

Chapo has enjoyed a couple of overnight visits with a fantastic volunteer. They report that in spite of spending most of his life on a tie-out with a dog house, Chapo has amazing in-house manners and is a SUPER-SNUGGLER! He LOVES to spend time snoozing on a couch or a comfy dog bed, especially with his person. He needs a little help getting up onto beds or couches, so as a physically affectionate guy, he really loves it when his people get down to his level or help him up to theirs for some cuddle time. He enjoys going for walks, is quite good on a leash, and is easy-going about other dogs. He also rides very well in a car - just settles in for a snooze.  Like most dogs going into a new home environment, he'll need plenty of opportunities to get outside for potty breaks and lots of praise when he gets it right. Although he seems to have pretty good doggie social skills, he has never shared a home with another dog, and he'd likely really appreciate not having to share good stuff with another dog at this phase of life.
