Pet-O-Rama: February 3rd 2026Pepper PLUS Training Available with All Adoptions AND Upcoming Spay/Neuter Clinics
Posted: Tuesday, February 3, 2026
Meet Pepper, this week's Pet-of-the-Week this year at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. She's a big, shaggy, beautiful best friend-to-be! Her previous family described her as an Old English Sheepdog mix, but the shelter's not sure how sure they were... The do know she's a big, sturdy 90 pounds, and she has a shaggy coat that WILL require regular grooming. Pepper was surrendered to the shelter, because her previous guardian has medical issues that made caring for her difficult. Pepper was clearly very well-socialized, loved, and trained in her previous home - she rides well in a car, is sociable and friendly with everyone she meets, she plays well with toys, is quite manageable on leash in spite of her size, and she responds to quite a few training cues, like "sit," "stay," "heel," and "come." She lived in a home with teenagers previously and did well, but she may be a little too exuberant for small children or elderly folks, especially those unused to larger dogs. Her favorite things to do are play with toys, go to the beach, and go for walks and hikes. Her favorite toy in a previous home was a soccer-sized ball. Training Available with All Adoptions
Upcoming Spay/Neuter Clinics
