Yucca and Cordyline, this week's PETS of the week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter were found in a Watsonville yard back in early Novembre, when they were about 3 months old. They're now 7 months old and are looking for the home that will be right for them! Yucca is a neutered male, with beautiful blue tabby markings, and Cordyline is black and grey tabby.

Both have thick, slightly longer coats. When first found, they were terrified of people. The family worked on taming them about 10 days but couldn't keep them long-term and brought them to us. They spent time in 2 different foster homes, where Yucca came out of his shell pretty well, but Cordyline remains his much more timid shadow. The shelter is hoping to find a patient, relatively quiet home where this young duo can continue to get comfortable being around people through play and calm, cat-savvy energy.  

Yucca and Cordyline are considered a bonded sibling pair. They're still pretty scared of human touch, but that doesn't stop them from playing with wand toys and chasing each other around! Yucca is the brave brother and accepts and enjoys some petting and attention. Cordyline prefers to watch intently as Yucca ventures out into new environments, and she eventually follows. With a lot of patience and respect for their needs for taking things slowly, they'll grow to be great and gorgeous companions! Because they've been waiting a while to find their new home, their adoption fees are sponsored, through the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundations' "Leave No One Behind" fund, which covers adoption fees for longer-stay animals.

They ARE in the midst of their "winter slow-down" for cat intakes. They're hoping that folks out and around Santa Cruz County have gotten any kitties in their lives fixed already - either at their own vet, at Friends of Watsonville Animal Shelter (FOWAS), or maybe they've got their cat (or their neighborhood stray?) scheduled to come to our Animal Balance Clinic this weekend? The shelter appreciates this time of year when they have a few fewer felines to care for, and knows that spayed or neutered cats who spend most of their time indoors live longer, healthier lives! That's why they're glad that family cared enough to bring Yucca and Cordy in several months ago.
