Pet-O-Rama: February 24th 2026Hey Vinny!!!
Posted: Monday, February 23, 2026
Oh man, take a look at Vinny, this week's Pet of the week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. He's a 9 month old black & white lab-pit bull-border collie...er something. Vinny is a big, goofy pup who's always eager for attention and is a bit of a busy-body – He's good for petting and handling, but he doesn't sit still for long - there's just so much to DO and explore and play with!! Here's a bit of his origin story: The shelter's Animal Control Officer Gooding was driving to a call back in mid-January when there was a disruption in traffic on Hwy 9: he quickly saw that a black & white dog was criss-crossing the winding road! He pulled over, hopped out and called to the dog, who, thankfully, just ran happily right into his arms. He checked in with the closest properties and others along the road, but no one recognized the dog, and he had no collar, tag, or microchip, so into the shelter they came. Surprisingly, no one came to claim this handsome, friendly, kinda squishy, 50-lb mixed-breed guy. The shelter named him Vinny, got him neutered and vaccinated, and now he's available for adoption. Vinny is ball and toy-oriented, likes to rough-house, and will do best with some good positive reinforcement manners training, ample exercise, and probably some puzzle-toy feeding to engage his body and mind. For more info, listen to Pet-O-Rama at 11am Thursdays here on the pig or visit the shelter, located at 1001 Rodriguez St. in Santa Cruz and open from 11am to 6pm every day. |
