Meet Zoe, a seven-year-old, spayed female, tortoiseshell and white cat who also happens to be this week's Pet of the week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. She came to the shelter the first time back in 2019, as a stray, nursing three kittens. She was a bit nervous at first, but then calmed down and showed her affectionate side, and she and her kittens landed new homes pretty quickly, likely because of her truly stunning tortoiseshell and white markings! Fast forward to last month, when Zoe's adopters had to bring her back to the shelter after seven years because they were moving, and unable to take her along.

Zoe's adoption fee is reduced by $20 thanks to Shelley's Angels – a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards often overlooked senior cats in Shelters. has an eye infection usually every year goes to Soquel animal hospital.

UPCOMING SHELTER EVENTS
Besides just having wonderful pets like Zoe available for adoption, the shelter has some great events coming up! Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 is a relaxed, indoor open house at The Painted Cork in west Santa Cruz for the Awkward Pet Portrait Exhibit! It's part of the #firstfriday gallery stroll. This year's Awkward Pet Portraits raised over $7,000 to support shelter animals and programs. A couple of the professional artists will be on hand with some of their art and their contact info in case you'd like to follow up with them for a pet portrait or other artwork!

Then on Sunday, March 8, the shelter is taking some of adopted dogs to Laughing Monk Brewery for Speed Dating: Paws and Prospects!! Two separate events are happening: from 2 to pm, singles over 55 will have their speed-dating event spiced up with some adoptable pups, and from 4 to 6pm, it will be time for folks 25-40 to see if they can make a match! Tickets are $28.52 and are required, space is limited, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the shelter! Find more information and get tickets through Eventbrite.com.
