Meet George, this week's Pet of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. He's is a wonderful 50 pound, white & black, mixed breed dog who is simply fantastic. George has a friendly, mellow personality, gets along well with other dogs, loves attention and affection from people, and enjoys all the basic, good stuff like walks and hikes, play sessions, and snuggling on a couch or the floor. He's not a dog who needs anything terribly special, he's just a good, solid, "mutt" that lots of families could really enjoy having around. George came to the shelter, supposedly, as a stray found on Sunset Beach, but his microchip told a different story - he was actually brought in by his owners, but they live in an adjacent county and perhaps didn't want to pay the out-of-county fee to surrender him. Unfortunately that means the shelter didn't get much information about his previous lifestyle or behavior, but they know he was previously adopted from a different shelter, and they've gotten to know him. It's hard not fall in love - he's truly just a very nice, easy-going, dog. He had some itchy skin and infected ears when he arrived, and they've beeen working on getting that cleared up, and even the clinic staff has fallen for him! A good quality diet, regular vet care, and regular flea preventative should keep him healthy and comfortable.

George has really enjoyed getting to know lots of the shelter volunteers and having play sessions with a wide variety of other dogs. He might enjoy having a canine companion, so if you've already got one at home, or if you're interested in adopting 2 dogs, wetheycould probably point you to one or more possible companions who are also at the shelter!
