This week's Pet of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is Kiwi the cat! She's an adorable girl with a sweet purr-sonality that's sure to steal your heart. She may be a little shy and cautious in new spaces at first but give her a little time and she'll blossom—greeting you with her big, bright green eyes and the cutest little head bump.

This lovely lady is dressed to impress in her gorgeous tortoiseshell-tabby coat, complete with a long, full, fluffy tail that adds to her undeniable charm. Kiwi is a big fan of head rubs, tasty treats, and finding the perfect cozy spot to curl up for a nap. She was found as a stray and brought to the shelter by a kind member of the community, and now she's ready to find a loving home of her own.

Because Kiwi is a bit of a sensitive soul, she would do best as an indoor-only kitty, or indoors with access to a safe catio where she can relax and watch the world go by. She has excellent litter box manners at the shelter, and the shelters wants to make sure she always feels safe, secure, and right at home.

The shelter also has two 5-week-old ducks named Nacho and Taco at the shelter right now.  We also have quite a few rabbits and guinea pigs.  The kittens are JUST around the corner - we have 7 families of kittens in foster homes right now, some with their mamas, and they'll start returning to the shelter to be made ready for adoption in the next week or so. As will all of our dogs, cats and rabbits, spay or neuter, vaccinations and a microchip are always included with adoption, so choosing to adopt from a shelter is ALWAYS and amazingly cost-effective way to bring a pet into your family, and we always have a diverse selection of pets available.

Pokes for Paws with Amory Body Arts.  Prize Drawing for four $250 gift cards. Entries are just a $5 donation each, and every dollar goes to the shelter's Planned Pethood fund.
