Have a look at Thor, this week's mighty Pet of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. He's a 1.5-year-old bundle of Big Dog Energy wrapped in a sleek black-and-white coat! This Border Collie / German Shepherd mix isn't just a looker with his fancy brown and white socks—he's got the brains and the personality to match.

Thor is an athlete whether it's swimming, hiking, or an epic game of fetch. He's doing well on leash and is easy in the car. Taking him to a brewery or on a run? No problem!  He's a socialite and strangers are just friends he hasn't met yet. You can expect lots of wiggles and wags.  He's a scholar and already knows "sit," "shake," and "down." Bonus Points: He's already crate trained. Thor is looking for an active partner who wants to keep his mind and body moving. He's done well with other pups, but he'd need to do a "meet and greet" with any resident dogs first. (No word on cats yet—he hasn't met any)

Join us at the City of Capitola Food Truck Fridays at Monterey Avenue Park from 4:30-7:30pm.  Take a break from cooking and cleaning! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is running the beer and wine garden, and we would love the support.
 
Saturday, May 16
Paint Your Pet Fundraiser at Laughing Monk Brewery in Scotts Valley from 12-3pm where 20% of all ticket sales will benefit the shelter.  Sign up at paintingandvino.com.

Saturday, May 30th

Join us at the Santa Cruz Cider Co and Buena Vista Brewing at 65 Hangar Way in Watsonville for the "Third Annual Music for the Animals" festival. Locally sourced beer and cider, live music from Michael Gaither & His New Best Friends, vendors and food from Off the Hook sushi. PLUS adoptable dogs! Runs noon to 5:00m. Proceeds benefit the shelter and The Birchbark Foundation.
