Meet Alani, a German Shepherd, and Border Collie mix who is 100% certified sweetness AND this week's Pet of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. In her past home, she was a sidekick for kids as young as two. She took her job very seriously, constantly checking on the toddlers and waiting for them to keep up when playing in the yard. She also lived peacefully with cats and gets a gold star for her polite doggy greetings at the shelter.

Alani spent her early days as an outdoor dog, but she is officially ready to retire inside. She is dreaming of a plush bed, head scratches, and humans who have plenty of time to spoil her. While her outdoor background means we cannot promise she is perfectly potty trained, her bedroom at the shelter is always spotless.

Tuesday, May 26
Dharma's is donating 15% of all proceeds from 4pm-8pm to the shelter. They have a dog friendly patio! Dine in, take out or order online at dharmasrestaurant.com. They serve delicious, natural organic vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Saturday, May 30th
Join us at the Santa Cruz Cider Co and Buena Vista Brewing at 65 Hangar Way in Watsonville for the "Third Annual Music for the Animals" festival. Locally sourced beer and cider, live music from Michael Gaither & His New Best Friends, vendors and food from Off the Hook sushi. PLUS adoptable dogs! Runs noon to 5:00m. Proceeds benefit the shelter and The Birchbark Foundation.
