Heidi! PLUS Upcoming Shelter Events

Posted: Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Meet Heidi, whom the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter staff are calling "Mom of the Year." In mid-May, Heidi and her twelve puppies were found in the woods. Heidi was very thin and undernourished. She had been supporting her puppies in the wild for weeks. Once here, she graciously allowed staff and volunteers to help her tend to her puppies and get herself back to a healthy weight.  Now that all her puppies have been adopted, she has been going on overnights with volunteers, and they have been singing her praises.  She is good in the car, she is potty trained, she has been sleeping quietly on the floor next to her foster parent's bed and just loves to snuggle. She has a goofy side that is just starting to come out, now that she is getting some love and attention, just for herself.  She can be a little shy when she first meets you but then she will warm up and be the light of your life.

Upcoming Shelter Events:

  • Saturday, June 27th 1-3pm Supergirl-themed Dog Adoption Event at Cinelux in Scotts Valley. Come meet adoptable dogs and bring a new dog toy or unopened container of treats for the shelter pups.
