Socks and Sandals! PLUS Upcoming Shelter Events
Posted: Tuesday, June 30, 2026
If you appreciate foggy mornings but also love a little tangy brightness, consider bringing kittens Socks and Sandals into your life! They just happen to be the PETS of the week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter . Named after a favorite foggy IPA from Humble Sea Brewery, these two 3 month old kittens are bright, effervescent and fun-loving, and the shelter would love to find them a caring new home where they can stay together. Socks is white with a nice orange tabby "blanket" from his forehead to the tip of his tail, and Sandals is his pretty-but-not-dainty tortoiseshell-tabby & white sister. She is the bold adventurer of the pair!
These two were found by a cyclist along with 5 other kittens in a carrier left near Shoreline Middle School. They spent some time in a foster home, where they grew stronger and gained confidence and great social skills, including getting used to being around a large dog and learning that humans make great snuggling partners. Socks & Sandals are very active and playful, just heading into their adolescent period, when they need plenty of space for play, a variety of toys, and scratching & climbing surfaces to burn off energy. The shelter volunteers and staff do an amazing job of socializing all the cats they have in our care at this time of year, but it IS tough for adolescent cats to be stuck in a fairly small enclosure in a shelter just as they're developing into their full athletic selves. Now that this fun-loving pair have been fixed, vaccinated and microchipped, they want to get them adopted and into a home SOON, so they can stretch, run, play and bond with their new human family.
