Tomas is this week's Pet of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter and exactly what you'd expect from a Border Collie:  He has a lot of energy despite being a "middle-aged" pup! His ideal family will provide daily exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy and healthy. Some of his favorite activities include playing fetch, going on "sniffaris," and nosing around a soccer ball. Tomas previously lived with three children (ages 5, 7, and 9) and was a wonderful, loving companion. He is a sweet, social guy who is adored by all the shelter's volunteers. With proper introductions, he also makes friends with other dogs.

Tomas is fully potty-trained. Although he mostly lived outdoors in his first home, he is incredibly social and craves human attention, so he truly wants to live indoors with his new family. Please note that Tomas has a typical herding prey drive and loves to chase squirrels, so a home without cats is highly recommended.

Tomas's adoption fee has been sponsored by a good Samaritan. AND The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering "Pawsitivity Bucks" with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!

• Saturday, July 18th Doors open at 7:30pm Purrrrrrfest 666 at the Blue Lagoon on Pacific Ave in Santa Cruz.  $20 Suggested Donation, with proceeds supporting the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter

• Saturday, July 18th is Paint and Sip at the Steel Bonnet from 3-6pm with Suzy Rad.  10% of proceeds will go to the shelter. Sign up at Suzyradarts.com.

• Join the shelter every Monday in July for Mahalo Mondays at Hulas. Hulas will donate 10% of all proceeds to the shelter.

• Saturday, August 15th is our 11th annual Parks and Rex Dog Pool Party fundraiser at Simpkins Family Swim Center from 11am-4pm.  Sign up online at scparks.co
