Tucker is this week's Pet of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. She came to the shelter on May 1st with 4 tiny kittens in tow. She's always been petite and athletic and still has plenty of kitten playfulness!
She and her kittens went to a wonderful foster home for several weeks, and Tucker was a great houseguest and a great mama. All of her kittens have been weaned, "fixed" and adopted, and now it's Tucker's turn!

Although she has experience living outdoors, she spent her kittenhood indoors, and she did really well indoors while in foster care, as long as she got a little active play time each day - which all cats need. Ideally she'll go to a home where she'll be kept safely indoors or have outdoor time only by way of a catio or with supervision after she gets comfortable and bonds with her new family. Tucker previously lived with an 8-9 year old girl, and one or more cats, so with proper slow introductions, she's likely adaptable to a variety of different family situations.

She's NOT thrilled to be in her little condo here at the shelter and starts out a little shy, but her friendly chirps and gorgeous classic tabby markings make her hard to resist if you take a minute to get to know her. There are different types of tabby markings, and hers are referred to as "classic" or "marbled," with bold, wavy black markings on brown & grey, and, of course, the wonderful "M" marking and chunky stripes on her legs and tail.

Note: A generous donor has sponsored Tucker's adoption fee, so we hope some cat lovers will come and meet this marvelous young former mama!

Upcoming Shelter Events:

• Friday, July 24, the shelter will have some adoptable dogs you can meet at the Midtown Block Party from 5:00 - 6:30pm

• Saturday, July 25 from 11:30 - 3:30 is "Paint Your Pet - Classic Style" at the Painted Cork in west Santa Cruz, which is a fundraiser for the shelter

• Monday, July 27 is the final "Mahalo Monday" at Hulas to benefit the Shelter. Hulas will donate 10% of all proceeds to the shelter.

• Thursday, August 6th, 6-9pm, "Jade" will play at Cork & Fork at the north end of the Capitola Mall property as a shelter Foundation fundraiser

• Saturday, August 8th, 1-5pm, BeerThirty will celebrate their "Beerthday" with a shelter fundraiser and we'll have some adoptable dogs there to meet

• Saturday, August 15th is our 11th annual Parks and Rex Dog Pool Party fundraiser at Simpkins Family Swim Center from 11am-4pm.  Sign up online at scparks.com.
