Meet Pickles, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Pet of the Week! Pickles arrived at the shelter at the end of July through no fault of his own. Sadly, a member of his family passed away, and he proved a bit too strong for the remaining family member to handle. Since his arrival, he has stolen the hearts of everyone he meets. The shelter volunteers affectionately know him as a "big sweetheart" who just wants to love and be loved.

If you are looking for an activity partner, Pickles is your guy. He absolutely loves going for walks and hikes and enjoys running around in the play yards. After a fun session of play, there is nothing he enjoys more than a good round of bootie scratches—it is the absolute fastest way to his heart!

Pickles has been going on overnight visits with one of our volunteers, and she reports that he is the "best boy." Even though he mostly lived outside in his previous home, he is completely potty trained and handles the indoor life like an absolute pro.  No Cats, Please - due to his breed background, Pickles has a natural urge to chase smaller animals. A cat-free home is a strict requirement for him. He can be selective with Canine Friends. Pickles has mixed feelings about other dogs. He actually has a designated doggy walking buddy here at the shelter! However, he can also be reactive to other dogs, so he needs an adopter who is willing to continue working on his socialization and training.

At the end of the day, Pickles is just a massive love bug looking for a second chance at a happy life. If you have room in your heart (and your couch) for this sweet boy, come visit him at the shelter today!

UPCOMING EVENTS

• Thursday, September 24th - Join the shelter at the Museum of Art and History downtown Santa Cruz in the Kincentricity Garden from 4-5:30pm.
• Friday, September 25th - The shelter will be hosting a Healthy Pets for All vaccine clinic for residents of Santa Cruz County who qualify for public assistance. Free vaccines, microchips, flea and tick medication and dewormer will be available at the VFW on 7th Ave from 11am-2pm.
• Saturday, September 26th - Join the shelter at PetSmart from 11:30am-3pm.  They will have adoptable dogs available inside the store on River Street.
• Sunday, September 27th - Meet adoptable dogs at Laughing Monk in Scotts Valley from noon to 3pm.
