Hey German Shepherd fans! Have a look at Rusty, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Pet of the Week! He's a four-year-old GSD (that's German Shepherd Dog) and total love bug who would like nothing more than to snuggle up with you for a nap. He would also love to go for walks or hikes, and he highly appreciates a good "sniffari." 

When his original owner could no longer care for him, Rusty lived in a home with multiple kids. His favorite roommate was an 11-year-old who he got to sleep with every night! He also lived with a senior Labrador Retriever and has done well meeting other dogs here at the shelter. With a proper introduction, he could do great with another dog in the home. While he doesn't seem to care for big, high-energy play—he's much more of a people lover—he would likely do well cohabitating with another calm canine. However, he does like to chase cats and other prey, so he will need a home without felines.

 Rusty is well past the puppy phase, is totally potty trained, and promises to be an amazing companion. He would be the perfect work-from-home buddy or after-work activity partner. Do you have room in your home and heart for this beautiful boy?

UPCOMING EVENTS

• Registration for Animal Balance, a three day Spay/Neuter clinic is now open! November 6th, 7th and 8th all dogs are $150 (includes licensing!) and cats are just $15.  The shelter has 200 slots and they will go fast.  Sign up at https://www.scanimalshelter.org/upcoming-spay_neuter_event/
• Wednesday, October 7th from 2:15-3:15pm the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter will host Cuddle Connections.  Small group sessions tailed for seniors (50+).  Space is limited, RSVP to nga@scanimalshelterfoundation.org.
• Saturday, October 10th Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing will host a 21st Anniversary Party from 12-8pm. There will be DJs, a vintage popup by Mother load, a record popup by Offshore sounds and Pizza by Side Quest Pizza, Sons Pizza and La Pizza Piccolo.  Proceeds will go to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.
