Pet-O-Rama: Daisy, Della and more Ducks AND Upcoming EventsWeek of November 2nd 2026
Posted: Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Meet Daisy and Della, an adorable young pair of white Pekin ducks who just happen to be this week's Pets of the Week at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. Daisy has a bold yellow bill and Della's is a more delicate pink color. The birds were passed from one owner to another as they grew, and in their last home Della was bullied by other ducks. Her eyes were red and crusty, her face had marks on it, and she had several broken feathers from scuffles. Now she's all healed up and both ducks are hoping for a peaceful new place they call home. They can be adopted together for just one adoption fee since they're bonded! Like all ducks, they'll need a safe and roomy coop to sleep in at night and access to a kiddie pool or pond during the day. Fun fact: Daisy & Della aren't the only ducks at the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter right now - their barn is literally FULL of ducks! They have 2 young Pekin males who could be twins of Daisy & Della: they arrived as strays a few months ago, and were named River & Brook. Again, one has a yellow bill and the other pink, and they are quite bonded, and there is no fee to adopt them together, since they've been with at the shelter for a while. Then there's Puddles, a white and black drake who grew up around kids and is very social with people, and Sweedey, a Swedish Blue drake who'd love to enjoy a larger coop and pond - maybe with a few females around, too... and then we just took in another surrendered Swedish Blue, named (very creatively) Ducky... So if you're in the market for an adorable addition to your farm, ranch, or homestead, or would just like a fascinating and charming new friend in your back yard, come check out our paddling pets! And also, of course, the shelter has lots of wonderful dogs and cats of all ages and descriptions. UPCOMING SHELTER EVENTS
