It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to another one of "those voices" in the KPIG realm. Sherman Caughman - better known as "Unkle Sherman" - left us yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Sherman was one of the original KFAT DJs who came to Freedom and went on the air with KPIG at its launch in the mid-late 1980s. He was with the pig until the early 2010s.

On the air, Sherman played a mix of blues, R&B, and country-rock. He was also known for his deep love of rockabilly. Sherman's shows always had an edge, which were even edgier during his late-night Saturday shifts with his "Dirty Boogie" show. You could honestly say he kept that edge with him off the air, too. He had the distinction - which he prided himself on - of being "the most-fired DJ" at KPIG.

Fun fact: Offstage, and for many years, he played a train robber up at Roaring Camp. If you met him in person, you might think it wasn't much of a stretch. He was particularly proud of his work there.

Despite his health issues, Sherman kept up his persona and sense of humor most recently on his Facebook page.. Have a look if you have a moment. His family is maintaining it, and they'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sherman was seriously a true original. The best way to really describe him is to just turn him loose and let him tell his story in his own words. Check out the video below.
